Animal-AI Olympics rules

PLEASE READ THESE rules CAREFULLY. Entry into the Animal-AI Olympics constitutes acceptance of these rules. If you do not agree to any part of these rules, do not enter the competition. Terms used Competition: The Animal-AI Olympics as described here and on the competition website. Competition website: Refers to the main website for the competition http://animalaiolympics.com/ and either of the three sites linked from the main website, https://github.com/beyretb/AnimalAI-Olympics, https://mdcrosby.com/blog and https://evalai.cloudcv.org/ (Animal-AI-specific link forthcoming). Competition organisers: The organisers of the Animal-AI Olympics competition as listed on the competition website, including, where applicable, affiliated institutions. Prize Provider: Any provider of any prize, or portion thereof, for the competition. Dates. The competition commences at 11:59pm GMT on July 1st. Uploading on the competition website will be available by 11:59pm GMT on July 8th. The first test phase will be at 11:59pm AOE on September 1st. Submissions past this date will not be counted. If there is enough funding to run extended testing the test phase will contain additional small variations of the tests and participants score may therefore differ from that received during the main competition phase. Results from this phase will be used for the distribution of AWS credits prizes. Prizes will be distributed in a commercially reasonable time-frame. Depending on progress, additional, more complex tests, may be added to the test set once results have been collated. The second and final test phase will be at 11:59pm AOE on November 1st. Submissions past this date will not be counted. If there is enough funding to run extended testing the test phase will contain additional small variations of the tests and participants score may therefore differ from that received during the main competition phase. Results will be announced by November 15th. Prizes will be distributed in a commercially reasonable time-frame. Note that Competition deadlines are subject to change should they need to for any reason. Any additional or altered deadlines will be publicized via the Competition Website. Honour Code In addition to the behaviours outlined by the official competition rules, "cheating" encompasses any attempt to gain an edge by attempting to access information in a way that is not intended. Examples of cheating include (but are not limited to): Attempting to abuse the competition infrastructure to gain an edge; Attempting to obtain information about the configuration files used for the tests beyond the information available on competition website; Attempting to use any information from the environment during testing beyond the input given to the agent. Please note that we reserve the right, but do not have the obligation, to review submitted code to disqualify any contributions demonstrating cheating, and we reserve the right to determine what competition organisers believe, in their sole discretion, constitutes cheating. We respectfully request that you refrain from cheating. Entry You may enter the competition as an individual or as a member of a Team. Individuals eligible to participate in the competition (see below) may form a "Team" which must include at least one, but not more than a maximum of five individuals. An individual may only be a member of one Team. Teams will appoint one member to be the lead for their Team ("Team Lead"). Team Lead will be responsible for submitting the Team's entry and will be the point of contact of all official communications between the Team and competition organisers and will receive all prizes on behalf of the Team. Team Leads are responsible for obtaining all consents from their Team members and ensuring that each member of the Team agrees to these rules. Entering the competition constitutes acceptance of these rules for every member of the team. Each Team may submit an entry as often as they like, but only the first entry each day will be submitted for testing. Competition organisers are not responsible for an entry or part of an entry that they do not receive for any reason, or for entries that they receive but are inaccessible or illegible for any reason and such entries may be disqualified at Competition Organiser's sole discretion. Eligibility You, and each member of your teem must meet all of the following requirements: You are an individual; You are 18 years of age or older but in no event less than the age of majority in your place of residence; You have not been involved with the development of the competition in any capacity. To be eligible for prizes you must comply with all terms and conditions of Prize Providers where the prize is not purely in cash or travel credits and be resident in a country where such prize consideration is legal. Please Note: it is entirely your responsibility to review and understand your employer and country's policies about your eligibility to participate in this competition. If you participate in violation of your employer or country's policies, you and your entry may be disqualified from the competition. The competition organisers disclaim any and all liability or responsibility with respect to disputes arising between an employer and such employer's employee in relation to this matter.   To be eligible to be considered for a prize, as solely determined by competition organisers, the entry MUST: be compiled following the instructions on the competition website; be in English; be the Team's own original work; not have been submitted previously in any promotion of any kind; not contain material or content that: is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, offensive, sexually explicit, pornographic, hateful, tortious, defamatory, or slanderous or libelous; promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual promotes discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age; promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, or tobacco; violates or infringes another's rights, including but not limited to rights of privacy, publicity, or their intellectual property rights; is unlawful; or is in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations of any jurisdiction in which the entry is created. The Team Lead MUST: ensure the Team has obtained any and all consents, approvals, or licenses required for submission of the entry; obtain any consents necessary from all members of the Team with respect to the sharing of such member's personal information as outlined herein; obtain the agreement of all members of the Team to these rules. All individuals entering as members of a team must: abide by the honour code outlined herein; not engage in false, fraudulent, or deceptive acts at any phase during participation in the competition; and not tamper or abuse any aspect of this competition.   Disqualification If you, any Team member, or the entry is found to be ineligible for any reason, including but not limited to conflicts within Teams, competition organisers reserve the right to disqualify the entry and/or you and/or your Team members.   Use of entries to the competition Entry into the competition grants the competition organisers a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, world-wide right and license to (i) review and analyse the entry in relation to this competition; and (ii) use the entry or parts of your entry in any media for any non-commercial or commercial purpose in connection with the marketing, sale, or promotion of the competition; acknowledges and agrees that the Team will not be compensated and may not be credited (at competition organiser's sole discretion) for the use of the entry as described in these rules; understand that the entry may be posted on a public website or social media channel and that competition organisers are not responsible for any unauthorized use of the entry by visitors to such site; and understand and acknowledge that, subject to provision of Prizes, competition organisers are not obligated to use the entry in any way, even if the entry is selected as a winning entry.    Prizes First round prizes will be awarded to the top 20 teams by overall score. Each team will be awarded $500 of AWS credits. A competition organiser will contact the team lead of each winning team detailing how to claim the credits. Final prizes One First Place Prize: Based on overall score (number of problems solved). The winner will receive $6,500 USD and up to $1,000 USD reimbursement for travel to NeurIPS 2019 to go towards economy class round trip airfares from your nearest airport to the city of the conference and up to 5 days of accommodations (food is not included). One Second Place Prize: Based on overall score (number of problems solved) The winner will receive $5,000 USD and up to $1,000 USD reimbursement for travel to NeurIPS 2019 to go towards economy class round trip airfares from your nearest airport to the city of the conference and up to 5 days of accommodations (food is not included). One Third Place Prize: Based on overall score (number of problems solved) The winner will receive $1,500 USD WBA Prize: The winner will receive $4,000 USD and up to $1,000 USD reimbursement for travel to NeurIPS 2019 to go towards economy class round trip airfares from your nearest airport to the city of the conference and up to 5 days of accommodations (food is not included). Category Prizes: The top placed entry for each category will win $200 USD. Prizes will be awarded in descending order of categories and entries will only be eligible if they have not won a prize (excluding AWS credits) already rewarded. Prizes will be awarded based on overall score (number of tasks succeeded). Entries will be tested using our system and subject to a strict time-out. If the entry has not finished all the tests in the allotted time, only scores up to that point will be counted. Ties will be broken by overall reward. WBA-prize will be awarded based on judgement from an independent panel of experts (participants TBC) based on a combination of performance and biological inspiration as demonstrated in an optional 2-page summary of the entry. Awarding the prize is at the sole discretion of the judges and their decision will be final with no recourse to appeal. All prizes are non-transferable, and no substitutions of the prizes for cash, alternate goods or services, or any other prize is permitted. Notwithstanding the foregoing sentence, competition organisers reserve the right to provide a substitute prize of approximately equal value for any reason. PRIZES ARE AWARDED "AS-IS" WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. All federal, state, and local or any other applicable taxes, license, title, and/or registration fees or other costs, associated with the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner. Competition organisers will not be responsible for any such taxes, fees, and costs. Any prize details not specified in these rules will be determined solely by the competition organisers.   The prizes will be awarded within a commercially reasonable time frame. All members of a Team may be required to complete and sign additional documentation, such as a non-disclosures, representations and warranties, liability and publicity releases (unless prohibited by applicable law), and tax documents, or other similar documentation in order for the potentially winning team to claim the prize. For Teams in excess of one member, the prize will be awarded to the Team Lead. Competition organisers will in no way be involved in any dispute with respect to receipt of a prize by any other members of a Team. Prize providers shall not be liable, and no claim shall be made, for any injury or damage to persons or property that may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entry/participation in the Event or the receipt or use of any prize or failure to receive any prize. Only prizes claimed in accordance to these rules will be awarded. Potential winners will be contacted via the email associated with the Team through which the entry was submitted. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, does not respond as directed, refuses the prize, or is found to be ineligible for any reason, such prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. Only one alternate winner will be selected per each prize package, after which prizes will remain unawarded. To the extent that there is any dispute as to the identity of the potential winner, the official account holder of the email address associated with the EvalAI account through which the entry was first submitted will be deemed the official potential winner.   Additional Terms and Conditions If the competition organisiers determine, in their sole discretion, that any portion of this competition is compromised by virus, bugs, unauthorized human intervention, or any other causes beyond their control, that in the sole opinion of the competition organisers corrupts, or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper participation in/of the competition, the competition organisers reserve the right to (a) cancel the competition; (b) pause the competition until such time the aforementioned issues may be resolved; or (c) consider only those entries submitted prior to the when the competition was so compromised for the prizes. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that the competition organisers, will not be liable for personal injuries, death, damages, expenses or costs or losses of any kind resulting from participation or inability to participate in this competition or acceptance of or use or inability to use a prize or parts thereof including, without limitation, claims, suits, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light (whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory. Your use of any other products and services required by these rules, whether required by these rules or not, are subject to the terms and conditions associated with such products or services, including the EvalAI site and services. In the event any clause or provision of these rules prove unenforceable, void or incomplete, the validity of the other conditions will remain unaffected.
